When changing rear pads, do you need to disconnect the parking break to compress the piston? if so How do you diconnect the parking break when changing rear pads? I am in really big need. Thank you for your help.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?what kinda of car is it? you don't usually have to diconnect the parking break to do the rear pads. On some cars like VW's you have to twist the caliper piston while pushing it back in because when the parking break is appiled it twists the caliper piston out to hold the car. They do make a special tool for this it is available at NAPA. Sometime thought they can be a little hard to get pushed back.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?Check right at the parking brake handle in the car. What kind of car would have told me what kind of brake mechanism you have. If it is one where you lift it up, then there should be adjusting screws at the base of the handle. Back the nuts right off. If no understand then visit local library to view pictures in a repair manual or peruse a store to do the same....for you will have to reset them back up for everything to be good to go.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?Need to know the year, make and model.
