Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?

I changed my friends rear brake pads and did everything like i always do c-claped the piston in and the caliper still didnt fit back on with the new pads finaly i was able to squeeze it back on but now his brakes stick. the mechanic told him the caliper needed to be change and he thinks i screwed it up and im not sure....so my question is did i brake it putting the brakes on or was it a bad caliper to begin with. also the pad on that side was down to the metal and the other side was only 50% worn

thanksBrake caliper is stuck how does this happen?if the brake pads were completely wore down on that calipers side and the other side wasn't as bad you definately have a bad caliper, replace it, I would also have the brake fluid flushed out of the system as it sounds like there is contamination in it and thats what probably caused the caliper to go bad.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?Yep, what mfrommel said.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? On many rear brake calipers you can not simply push the pistons in with a C-clamp. Because they parking brake is usually part of the rear caliper your need to turn the pistons while you press them in. If you don't you will wreck the caliper.

Otherwise, the piston failed (happens all the time) and the caliper should be replaced.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? You didnt say what vehicle your working on,on some rear caliper set ups have the handbrake actuator behind the piston. This means as someones already said the piston has to be screwed back into the caliper, there are different set ups, some have automatic handbrake adjuster situated behind the piston, these can be tricky as they sometimes stick and you have to strip the calipers to gain access to release them.Im not saying its rocket science but make sure you know whats what before messing around with brakes.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?the pads should have equal wear so the caliper was probably messed up b4 you touched itBrake caliper is stuck how does this happen?you didnt break it andy. what goes wrong with calipers, is dirt gets inside the piston and the piston cant work very good, also the slides on the caliper and where the caliper rides needs to be clean and use some high temperature grease on then, just a little bit of grease will work.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? You do know most cars today the caliper pistons need to be compressed by means of screwing them back into the cavity right? And if they don't fit on without almost forcing it it will seize and ruin the seals in the caliper with the heat. Sorry, Just a tid bit of info. For some still work the old fashion way with a c-clamp. Make sure you read up on the vehicle before starting best way to cover your butt lol. Maybe take a short course sounds like the makings of a good mechanic.
