I have a front wheel drive Mitsubishi 380. No too long ago the rear left wheel hit a curb quite hard. The wheel itself survived but now there is a loud squeaking noise coming from the rear wheel. The noise gets quite loud and only lessens as I apply the brakes. Even while driving slowly the squeaking occurs. Also, if I havent driven the car overnight or for a few hours it takes a bit of time for the squeaking to start. I have had a full wheel alignment done and they could not see what was causing the noise. From what I know it's most likely a damaged wheel bearing that is causing the problem but can anyone else suggest what else it could be and how much roughly repair would cost? I have also have the brake pads changed as I thought it couldbe contributing to the squeaking recently but the noise it still there just as before.
ThanksRear wheel took a hit and now squeaks quite loud when I'm driving, except when brake is applied.?it sounds like a bearing but could be the hub itself suggest you get the mechanic to look at it and give you a written estimate for the repairRear wheel took a hit and now squeaks quite loud when I'm driving, except when brake is applied.?it could be a wheel bearing or you broke something on the shoes.Rear wheel took a hit and now squeaks quite loud when I'm driving, except when brake is applied.?Im afraid it is a wheel bearing, I have changed a front bearing by removing the hub assembly and removing the axle nut, then I had to take the hub to have the bearing pressed out, 2hours labor in a shop and a $40 bearing, roughly $220 if I had had it done in a shop

Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?
When changing rear pads, do you need to disconnect the parking break to compress the piston? if so How do you diconnect the parking break when changing rear pads? I am in really big need. Thank you for your help.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?what kinda of car is it? you don't usually have to diconnect the parking break to do the rear pads. On some cars like VW's you have to twist the caliper piston while pushing it back in because when the parking break is appiled it twists the caliper piston out to hold the car. They do make a special tool for this it is available at NAPA. Sometime thought they can be a little hard to get pushed back.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?Check right at the parking brake handle in the car. What kind of car would have told me what kind of brake mechanism you have. If it is one where you lift it up, then there should be adjusting screws at the base of the handle. Back the nuts right off. If no understand then visit local library to view pictures in a repair manual or peruse a store to do the same....for you will have to reset them back up for everything to be good to go.Do you have to disconnect the parking brake?Need to know the year, make and model. On some vehicles, yes. For help, try www.auto zone.com/servlet/ui broker

I am trying to change the Pads and Cannot collapse the PistonHow do you collapse a rear Brake caliper on a 94 Ford Mustang?REMOVAL
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove brake hose bracket to shock unit bracket screw.
3. Remove retaining clip, then disconnect parking brake cable from lever.
4. Using open end wrench to hold slider pin in position, remove upper pinch bolt. Loosen, but do not lower, slider pin pinch bolt.
5. Carefully rotate caliper away from rotor, then remover inner and outer brake pads and anti-rattle springs from anchor plate.
INSTALLATION
Fig. 14 Positioning Caliper Piston To Brake Pad Nib
1. Using rear caliper piston adjuster T87P-2588-A, or equivalent, rotate caliper piston clockwise until fully seated. Position one of two piston slots so it will engage nib on rear of brake pad.
2. Position inner and outer brake pads on anchor plate, then install anti-rattle springs.
3. Carefully rotate caliper assembly over brake rotor. Ensure brake pads and anti-rattle springs are properly positioned.
4. Apply suitable thread sealer and locking compound to pinch bolt threads. Install and tighten pinch bolts, while holding slider pin in position with suitable open end wrench.
5. Position parking brake cable to lever, then install retaining clip.
6. Position brake hose and bracket to shock unit bracket and install attaching bolt.
7. Install wheel and tire assembly, then lower vehicle.
8. Cycle brake pedal several times to position brake pads and caliper piston. How do you collapse a rear Brake caliper on a 94 Ford Mustang?you need a special tool to wind the piston in. This is because the handbrake adjusts on an internal screw inside the piston. How do you collapse a rear Brake caliper on a 94 Ford Mustang?i own a repair shop, and these turn in,they just sort of screw back in,this is because the emergency brake is back there also, advance had a tool that will turn it in but there easy to do you can use another tool just be care full and don't damage it good luck i hope this help,s,,,PS if you try and force it back you,ll ruin it,it turns back all the way, dont try and just push it back.

I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?
how can i reduce the the extra wearing on my pads and my caliper from getting to hot i have bled my brakes i have no problems with the other side rear. this problem has only occured since i changed discs and pads.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?Sticky caliper a lot of people use copper grease on their calipers which can actually cause them to seize sometimes. There is a new lubricant avaliable it comes in small tubes its made by mintex and called cera tex any autoshop that stock mintex pads will be able to supply you with this.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick? The slider pins are probably stuck, hence why they are getting hot and not %26quot;releasing%26quot;. Since the brakes only push from the piston side, if the caliper pins arent lubed, it will only push on that side. Sometimes they move and get stuck and dont release, sounds like it here. Dont use WD-40. Use silicone grease. It wont dry up and mixes with whatever else has been put in there before.
Take a rat tail file and clean the inside where the slider pins go and rinse with brake kleen. Blow out and re-grease. Be sure to get all the rust off. Do this every time you change your brakes.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?the only fix is a new caliper.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?Sticky caliper. The discs are not kicking the pads off.
Take it off again, remove the pads and gently peel back the rubber dust covers on the pistons. Now add a SMALL squirt of WD 40 to the pistons. (DON'T GO MAD. WD 40 %26amp; brakes are not a good mix) Depress the brake pedal to move the piston out then force the piston back in. Repeat until everything running smoothly.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?Definitely a sticky caliper.
My advice would be to fix it right, rather than any 'quick-easy-cheap' repair, but I may be just a little 'over the top' when it comes to brakes or steering.
Calipers aren't that expensive and don't do just the one side. Do everything with brakes in at least pairs. Replace both rear calipers.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick? You did not state what type of car or how many miles, but you probably need to either lube your caliper slides or replace the caliper. Rebuilt calipers usually aren't very expensive.I have a problem with my rear brakes on the passenger side caliper gets too hot and my pads are wearing quick?Sounds like you have a sticky calliper, you can try the WD40 route mentioned before. However some cars have a history of this type of problem, the VW Golf for example.

Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?
I changed my friends rear brake pads and did everything like i always do c-claped the piston in and the caliper still didnt fit back on with the new pads finaly i was able to squeeze it back on but now his brakes stick. the mechanic told him the caliper needed to be change and he thinks i screwed it up and im not sure....so my question is did i brake it putting the brakes on or was it a bad caliper to begin with. also the pad on that side was down to the metal and the other side was only 50% worn
thanksBrake caliper is stuck how does this happen?if the brake pads were completely wore down on that calipers side and the other side wasn't as bad you definately have a bad caliper, replace it, I would also have the brake fluid flushed out of the system as it sounds like there is contamination in it and thats what probably caused the caliper to go bad.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?Yep, what mfrommel said.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? On many rear brake calipers you can not simply push the pistons in with a C-clamp. Because they parking brake is usually part of the rear caliper your need to turn the pistons while you press them in. If you don't you will wreck the caliper.
Otherwise, the piston failed (happens all the time) and the caliper should be replaced.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? You didnt say what vehicle your working on,on some rear caliper set ups have the handbrake actuator behind the piston. This means as someones already said the piston has to be screwed back into the caliper, there are different set ups, some have automatic handbrake adjuster situated behind the piston, these can be tricky as they sometimes stick and you have to strip the calipers to gain access to release them.Im not saying its rocket science but make sure you know whats what before messing around with brakes.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen?the pads should have equal wear so the caliper was probably messed up b4 you touched itBrake caliper is stuck how does this happen?you didnt break it andy. what goes wrong with calipers, is dirt gets inside the piston and the piston cant work very good, also the slides on the caliper and where the caliper rides needs to be clean and use some high temperature grease on then, just a little bit of grease will work.Brake caliper is stuck how does this happen? You do know most cars today the caliper pistons need to be compressed by means of screwing them back into the cavity right? And if they don't fit on without almost forcing it it will seize and ruin the seals in the caliper with the heat. Sorry, Just a tid bit of info. For some still work the old fashion way with a c-clamp. Make sure you read up on the vehicle before starting best way to cover your butt lol. Maybe take a short course sounds like the makings of a good mechanic.

Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?
I had new ones put on about 2 months ago because they were warped. I did not change the brake pads at that time because they looked good. Well, after these two months I have the same vibration when braking. How hard is it to replace the rotors myself when I replace the pads? I have done pads before and they are not that hard, but never attempted the rotors before? Too difficult compared to replacing the pads?
Also, on my truck, are there rear brake pads? If so should I replace all 4 at the same time?
Thanks!!Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?you should never replace rotors and not replace the pads because if the rotors are warped then this means the pads are worn off uneven ,so now you will have to replace the pads and get the rotors turned and hope that repairs the problem, you should do the front as a set and the rear as a set,and you should have 4 wheel disc brakes on that one, look to be sure though, good luck.Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?wel if you can replace pads you can pretty much handle any part of brake system you can find a how to by typing
